About Doha

About Doha

Doha means embankment slope for sodding in civil engineering.

However, in Suiseki, Doha means flat stone which is reminiscent of a vast extent of land.

You might think that flat stone can be found anywhere, however, flat stones which reminiscent of "a vast extent of land" are very few.

So, as a derived stones, raised-Doha which is not flat stone but having a height on the flat surface is there. Toyama Doha which is combination of Toyama and Doha is also derived. One reason for the existence of derived stones is because pure Doha, just flat but is reminiscent of "a vast extent of land", is very few.

This stone has flat surface but the whole shape is not flat, so it may be raised-Doha.

Raised-Doha and Toyama-Doha

Flat stones which reminiscent of "a vast extent of land" are very few. It may be the reason why Raised-Doha and Toyama-Doha are derived.

I would like to introduce Raised-Doha and Toyama-Doha here.

Raised-Doha is not flat and a cube shape having a height is majority.

Toyama-Doha is not just flat but a combination of Toyama and Doha. In most cases, Toyama is located on the edge of Doha.

The following photo is Kamui Cotan Seki, Raised-Doha, and Toyama-Doha:

Attractive point of Raised-Doha is, because of the height, image from the Raised-Doha is as if celestial world. It can not be reached easily.

Toyama-Doha is good for imaging landscape from distant mountain through a vast extent of land, so it is good for Suiseki.
