About Sajigawa
Sajigawa or Saji river flows through Saji-chou or Saji town in Tottori City.
The Sajigawa originates at Mt. Mikuni, flows eastward about 25 km through the Saji area, and joins the Sendai river, a Class I river.
Paleozoic rocks can be found in the Sajigawa, which flows through steep topography.
Sajigawa is so famous among stone lovers that it produces Sajigawa-ishi, one of Japan's three most famous stones.
Saji-chou has created five local resources: (Nashi) Japanese pear, (Washi) Japanese paper, (Hanashi) story, (Ishi) stone, and (Hoshi) stars. It is called five “-shi" and is transmitting the charm of the area as “Goshinosato”.
Unfortunately, picking stones up in the Sajigawa is prohibited by the ordinance, however, the Garden of Reimei which is for preservation and exhibition of Sajigawa-ishi, located behind the Saji Town General Branch Office, and you can see the garden through a very short passageway through the building.
In addition, it seems that picking stones up is still being conducted in the Sendai river downstream of the Sajigawa.
