About Fujikawa
The Fujikawa, Fuji River originates as the Kamanashi River at Mt. Nokogiri on the border between Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures, merges with the Fuefuki River, changes its name to the Fujikawa, flows through Shizuoka prefecture, and empties into Suruga Bay. It is counted as one of Japan's three most rapid rivers, along with the Mogami River in Yamagata and the Kuma River in Kumamoto. Its mouth is 1,950 meters wide, the widest in Japan.
The Fujikawa is surrounded by Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, Mount Kitadake, the second highest mountain, the Yatsugatake Mountains, and the Chichibu Mountains, and flows along the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line, which divides the Japanese archipelago into east and west. As a result, you can see a wide variety of stone types in the Fuji River.
