Kawazure
Kawazure
In Suiseki, the word of Kawazure is also used to explain the condition of the stone surface.
The Kawazure is used to explain the condition that stones abrade in running water. "Kawa" means river and "zure" means the condition being worn smooth.
You might think why worn stones are good for Suiseki and I would like to explain it. Stones which is good for Kawazure should be dense and hard.
If soft stones abrade in running water, it is not smooth but sandy. (It is so usual and uninteresting.)
On the other hand, of course, hard stone is also rounded in running water but it takes a good polish. The condition that reflecting dull light makes me feel elegant.
Appropriate stones for Suiseki should be dense and hard. Stones collectors touch and feel the surface.
By Kawazure, they feel softness from its round shape and hardness from the texture. They enjoy both.
Although the shape is rounded but you may find hardness from its texture.
