There are several categories in Suiseki. Toyama and Doha is one of them categorized by shape. However, Suiseki is historical and therefore, some scene imaged by the present generation is not in Suiseki.

I would like to introduce such kind of stones here.

This is Sado red stone. As you see, this stone is a vivid orangish-red color.

Colorful colors tend to interrupt to image some scene from stone. Therefore, dark color is good for Suiseki and true black color is considered as the best. It is common knowledge in Suiseki. However, how about this stone?

I remembered red rock cliff in Sedona, Arizona when I saw this stone for the first time.

Sedona

The scene in Sedona is distinct and surprises people for the first time.

That was so great that I could not think that it was of this world, so it may be difficult to image Sedona from this stone for people who never visit.

From this sense, it may be difficult that this stone will be one of categories of Suiseki. However, I believe that it is good practice to add a new category in Suiseki from this modern and global society

Returning to the this stone, Sado red stone.

Almost as if it is the ancient sanctuary near the summit in adventure movie, such as The Hobbit, or There and Back Again.

Yes, it is not seen in Japan.

Nevertheless, from the mysterious and glorious scene, I am always reminded how great the nature is. In that sense, it should be Suiseki.

This Sado red stone has further characteristic.

This is bottom side. The surface looks like Itokake(糸掛) or Itomaki(糸巻) which is a trace of a line of silica running through on the surface.

Around there, tiny something is glittering in the sun.

Sado red stone is categorized to Iron quartz and from hydrothermal liquid containing iron oxide and abundant quartz.

Abundant silica makes this small glittering.
