Nashiji
Nashiji
There is another term to describe texture of stone surface in Suiseki.
It is Nashiji, 梨地.
If translating literally, it means pear-skin in English.
The meaning is crepe or satin, like satin finished surface. Let's see the following photo:
Irregularities or each dent by Nashiji is not deep as Sudachi.
It's only surface.
Though, it is hardly surprising, stones in the world can not be classified easily. There are many stones placed between Nashiji and Sudachi.
For example, the following stone is from Shonai river, if each dent is bigger, it may called Kani Maguro or Sasa Maguro which are terms to explain other types of texture of the surface. Actually, Nashiji is cordierite hornfels.
