About Kuzuya-ishi

Kuzuya-ishi is one of categories of Suiseki.

Kuzuya means a thatched house, so Kuzuya-ishi is stone the shape of which is reminiscent of a solitary house in the countryside.

It is Japanese old scene. Even if they did not live there actually, Japanese feel longing for home by the scene. Kuzuya-ishi has a touch of sweet melancholy for these people, so Kuzuya-ishi is popular and some collectors collect only Kuzuya-ishi.

It is because easy to understand the scene.

In the cause of Kuzuya-ishi, palm size is preferred. I believe that it is because big stone is too much presence.

Kuzuya-ishi should be reminiscent of a solitary house in the middle of the field, so small one is preferred.

Further, having a saucer which is being a pair of a roof is preferred.

Kuzuya-ishi

In the case of this Kuzuya-ishi, there is a saucer for a roof, so the shape of this stone seems to be good. However, the shape of this stone seems to be caused by human hand.

I did not know that, but found shaving marks around the middle…

I feel very disappointed.

The following photo is backside and there is unnatural trace caused by as if cutting, however, it seems to be natural. Because there is white area deep inside and it is limestone.

So, the cutting shape seems to be caused by the solubility of limestone.

This stone is fine and heavy, but includes limestone penetration, so this stone may be Abekawa-ishi.

I would like to have natural Kuzuya-ishi some day.
