About Sadoshima
Sado Island (also known as Sadoshima or Sadogashima) is an island located in the Sea of Japan, west of Niigata. The O-Sado Mountains and Ko-Sado Mountains stretch from northeast to southwest, and the Kuninaka Plain, a grain-producing region, stretches between the two mountain ranges.
Although there are variations in spelling, either "Sadoshima" or "Sadogashima," it is generally referred to as "Sado," and there is little confusion over how it is pronounced.
Sado Island is the largest island in the Sea of ??Japan and the only island with a mine. It has long been known as an island rich in natural mineral resources, including the Sado Island Gold Mine.
The most famous stone is the Akadama-ishi from Akadama village in the southeast of Sado, and is counted as one of Japan's three most famous stones. Other famous stones include the Kinko stone from Iwataniguchi village in the north, and the blue, yellow, and five-color stones from Saruhachi village in the middle.
